The edition focuses mainly on high quality translations from the Latin works of Johannes Amos Comenius. Emphasis is placed on those works that have not yet been translated or are available to the Czech reader in now outdated translations that no longer meet the current linguistic and interpretive requirements. In addition to the published works themselves, each volume includes a study that places the work in the context of Comenius's life and thought and in the wider context of the times. Substantive commentaries based on new findings and the most up-to-date scholarly literature are an integral part. The translations are arranged in thematic groups, for example Comenius' dramatic works from the Leszno and Hungarian periods, political writings, theological treatises on questions of faith, revelations, correspondence, didactic or philosophical writings. The aim of the series is to provide the Czech reader with an enlightened view of Comenius's writings, which are still little known, often available only in Latin, and increasingly incomprehensible to the majority of readers.
The series is edited by Tomáš Havelka (chief editor), Lenka Řezníková, Martin Steiner and Vladimír Urbánek.
